Hello Heather,

I was very fortunate that my grandfather lived to the age of 92 and that he was sharp as a tack until the last few weeks of his life. He did an excellent job passing the history down. I hope you find some answers on your families history!!

Thank you for the encouragement!!

We never really take the time to reflect on how the decisions of generations before us impact our lives today. This was a nice way to do that and put things in perspective for you and Tom.

Hello Jon,

I have a cousin that's done a tremendous amount of work researching my mom's side of the family. She says she's obsessed with dead people! Lol Lol

But the past as we all well know shapes the future for good and bad sometimes.

This was written so beautifully. We are an immigrant nation. Your writing brings back so many cherished memories. My mom was a first generation American citizen who came by boat with her brother from Yugoslavia (Slovenia) at the age of fifteen. My dad was born here but his parent were from Lebanon. My maternal grandparents died before my mom came here. I have passed down memories from her and photos. I loved being able to spend time with my grandparents. Now I have grandchildren in their twenties. My wish is that I can live long enough to see their children.

Thanks so much. Looking forward to your next post.

Hello Monica!!

Slovenia!! I don't think I've ever met someone from there. Also, your dad being from Lebanon is really cool. My youngest son had a friend in high school whose mother was from Lebanon. She was really a nice lady with a great sense of humor. That's excellent that you have the passion to hand it down.

😭😭😭 Thank you so much for this!! My mother and her family are also German immigrants, who became citizens in the early 1950's. There are many stories we have yet to unravel, but unsure we ever will, as most of them have passed.

I love generation stories and how we are like our ancestors. I write mine in story- fictional accounts because I’m not sure of all the gaps. My mother told me so many stories from her childhood and my dad’s. Dad was quiet. As I’m doing some research, I see names from my childhood and wished these ladies had said things like I knew your grandparents, or what the town was like in the early 1900’s or any tid bit. It’s a world to discover but never go to physically. That makes sad sometimes. Even as a child, I rode around town wondering what it was like in “olden times.”

Hello Mollie!!

That's a really cool idea. I especially like to visit places of where my family lived and even my childhood home from time to time. I did get to see my grandfathers home he grew up in!! That was a thrill!

I am blessed to be in the area where most of my ancestors have lived since 1802. There is the great grandmother from Ireland. A great great grandfather from Wales. My cousin has his book of sermons written in Welsh. He married a woman from Martha’s Vineyard. I would love to know that story! Another great grandfather immigrated from England, but may have been Welsh, too. My grandmother’s mean German grandmother was actually just from the town up the road from me. I haven’t really looked when that family immigrated. But they were here in the early 1800’s, too. So many stories and as your dad wrote so many layers. Fascinating.

Hello Ofifoto!!

I'm a believer that things work out the way they do for a purpose, I don't think anything happens by accident.

Thank you for sharing this William. Your father may have declined the first opportunity to go to College, but that choice still lead him to lifelong learning and then sharing that learning with others.

As you said, people are complicated, but isn't it all so interesting?!
